Will Your Ears Go Back To Normal After Gauging Past 1/2 Inch?

Over the last nine months I've been slowly gauging my ears. I just made it to 1/2 inch and I'm scared that they won't ever be the same again. Help!

Aside from the fact that if you're worried about permanent effects, you probably shouldn't be doing it, I can tell you that my brother made it all the way up to an inch, had it that way for a year, and when he had to remove it because he got a job where that appearance wasn't suitable, it completely filled in within a month or two.

People in my family tend to heal fast and well, however, so I can't guarantee that it will be the same for you.

Good luck!

Just after doing some quick research it seems like 00 gauge is the standard size for people who would definitely like it to grow back eventually (00 is .365 inch.) However, there are many people who have gone up to 1 inch and had it close just fine after a few months. I think it all depends on exactly how you heal individually. As with most things body related, it all depends on the person and there isn't really a guaranteed yes or no answer.

Because you did it slowly, your ears will most likely return to their normal state over time. The only ones who really need to worry are those who rushed the gauging process (skipping four or more gauge levels at a time), because they end up tearing the tissue, which scars, and usually doesn't fully return to normal. However, even if you gauge it slowly, your ears are not likely to fully regain normality if you gauge them over an inch. There is no definite answer, because everyone's bodies are different, but I can confidently say that in your situation, so long as you are healthy and heal normally in other situations, that your ears will in fact return to normal.
