STAR WARS Tattoo Design Ideas and History

The Star War series, created by George Lucas, was released by 20th Century Fox in 1977 and became one of the most popular pop culture series across the globe. Among the Star Wars global media empire that includes merchandise, films, books, television series and games, are also tattoo designs and themes. In May of 1977, George Lucas created a new and stylized space film series called Star Wars which was released by 20th Century Fox. Today, Star Wars remains to be one of the most popular world wide pop culture iconic film series in history. The Star Wars media franchise has grossed nearly four and a half billion dollars which includes earnings from the films, books, merchandise, television series and video games.

Star Wars features characters that take on the persona's of fantasy fiction archetypes such as princesses, witches, and knights and incorporates a strong presence of alien races, galaxies, planets and technology. Star Wars also encapsulates the traditional battleground between good and evil that takes place in the settings of space, distant galaxies, alien planets and star bases.

Star Wars, among it's many inspirations, inspires tattoo artists as well. A growing trend for tattoo designs and ideas are based on the Star Wars theme and characters. Listed below are some of the designs that are gaining in popularity.

This full back piece shown above features a large storm trooper in the center, Darth Vader, the Death Star, Tie Fighters, an AT-ST, Imperial Guards and Boba Fett surrounded by fire, spacial stars, planets and a marbled swirling canvas of purples and black.

The artwork is beautiful, but I still will never understand why any relatively sane human being would want to disfigure their body with it.
